The campervan
Let me say at the outset, campervans in New Zealand are basic. Some of the high end models are the same as Europe, based on Sevel ( Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat) or Mercedes or VWs
New Zealand tend to use Toyota Hiace, they are everywhere as tradesmen vans and taxis.
The basic is just a bed in the back, but there is a requirement in NZ for wild camping, they must be self contained. This requires that the have a waste water tank, on board fresh water storage and a toilet. Ours just complies, but it was cheap and it does us. The toilet is a portapotty, but all sites have toilets and most carparks have public toilets, there is little problem.
