Waipu Caves

We arrived the free overnight campspot to find it very busy with visitors, but is went very quiet after 4pm.
We had some mince that had been in a not cool box. That is a cool box that has no form of cooling i.e. warm.
We made a bolognese out of it after testing it was OK. The caves can wait until tomorrow. 
There is a information sign about the cave, noting that you will need a torch, helmet and be willing to wade up to the waist in water! That sounded a bit much to see a few glow worms! We looked a few metres into the entrance and decided it was not for us, the wading was not an option.
Further investigation revealed that there was another entrance that had been improved for access 2km up the road. A guided walk into "Milky Way Glow Worm Cave"
Off we went.

Preparation

Less than a week to go, flights have been booked since August and campervan booked on arival at Auckland. We have packed everything we need (hopefully) in 2 backpacks. If we have missed anything we will just buy it there. We head to Carlisle on the train from Braystones on Monday, overnight in the County Hotel Carlisle and catch the 6.47am train to Euston on Tuesday 6th Feb. If all goes well we fly out of Heathrow to Frankfurt then to Singapore and finally to Auckland where we pick up our campervan from Barefoot Campers.

First Campsite

We needed to get the van sorted how we like it and to overcome the jetlag, so we booked this site for 3 nights. Right next to a black sand beach, great for surfing, but not swimming, I little too rough. The site has a camp kitchen with about 6 electric hobs a few fridges and boiling water on tap and the all important Dump Point. For all types of waste water. Good site and friendly fellow campers.
